Terms of Service

Last updated: October 19, 2026.

This is a plain-language template for the product. Have counsel review it before you take payments at scale.

1. What decodemachine is

decodemachine is a browser-based learning lab for Linux and terminal fundamentals. The lab is educational: it does not connect to, modify, or control your real computer or any third-party server. Commands you type run inside the lab and do not touch your device.

2. Accounts

You need an account to save progress and keep a streak. You are responsible for your credentials and for activity under your account. Provide a valid email and keep your password secure. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service.

3. Plans and billing

  • The Free plan includes the first 15 graded labs, the daily drill, streak tracking, and cloud progress at no charge.
  • Pro is a recurring subscription at $14.99 per month, or $9.99 per month with an active promotional discount such as LINUX10, plus applicable taxes.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you authorize recurring charges until you cancel.
  • You can cancel at any time in the billing portal. Access continues until the end of the current paid period. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods, except where required by law or where we charged you in error.
  • We may change prices with reasonable notice. Changes apply to future billing periods, not the period you already paid for.

4. Acceptable use

Do not abuse the service, attempt to disrupt it, scrape it at scale, resell access, share accounts, or use it to break the law. Do not attempt to extract answer keys or other users' data. We may suspend accounts that threaten the service or other learners.

5. Educational content

The content is provided for education. Commands and examples are designed to be safe in the lab, but real systems are different. You are responsible for what you run on your own machines and servers, including taking backups before destructive commands. We do not guarantee employment outcomes or certification.

6. Intellectual property

The curriculum, interface, and brand are owned by decodemachine. You may use the material for your own learning. You may not copy, republish, or resell the curriculum without permission. Linux is a trademark of Linus Torvalds; Linux Mastery is independent and not endorsed by him or the Linux Foundation.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service available, but we do not promise uninterrupted access. We may change, pause, or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid plan, we will provide a reasonable remedy for the unused portion.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, decodemachine is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from commands you run outside the lab. Our total liability for a claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months.
